A few minutes with Jeanie Davis…

Thanks for stopping by, and for your interest in my work. If your company is in the health/wellness, healthcare, health IT or medical industries, I really think I can help you.

I count myself as fortunate to work with many large and small companies with a vision–to help improve health and well-being in our society. For those in healthcare or health IT, the goal is to help fix the healthcare system.

In both scenarios, there is frustration–as it’s tough to stand out in a crowded market.

That’s where I can help. I understand the nuances of this broad industry. I can help you establish your brand’s voice… your message… with the power of storytelling.

My healthcare writing expertise and my “medical education” comes from working in the editorial trenches of  top hospitals, medical research centers, and online health journalism.

Here’s my story…

In 1999, I was one of the first journalists hired at WebMD before it went “live” on the internet, and helped build it from a start-up to its current status as a leading health news website – writing nearly 1500 articles. My byline was Jeanie Lerche Davis. Those articles have appeared on WebMD, and on sites all over the internet… just Google me, and you’ll see!

During those 9 years, I wrote about medical discoveries, chronic diseases, diagnostic and treatment breakthroughs — as well as  lifestyle, emotional health, and environmental issues. Alternative therapies and integrative medicine have been central to my work — new research on meditation, tai chi, acupuncture and other ancient practices; new viewpoints on nutrition and wellness; advances in nutritional supplements; emerging research on body, spirit, mind.

My interviews with countless medical experts, researchers, nurses, therapists, and patients have provided background and insights. I developed expertise in doing evidence-based research using the top medical journals, NIH and CDC resources.

I’ve also worked for some top Texas hospitals…

For 7 years, I worked in the Texas Medical Center in Houston,  editing scientific research papers and writing consumer feature articles about research at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer CenterAt St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital/Texas Heart Institute,  I wrote patient health materials…  nursing, physician, employee, and fundraising publications… and served as writer and managing editor for Innovator magazine, which focused on innovative nursing and medical practices at this leading hospital, and won several awards.

As a freelance writer…

Since 1996, when I first started freelancing, I have written for large and small health companies and institutions.  It’s given me a chance to explore my own talents, skills and interests.  I’m now immersed in health/wellness, healthcare technology, biotech, medical devices–and in healthcare reform. I’ve written about the billing, coding and claims side of healthcare. If it’s in the health industry, I’m interested!

My formal education…

I have a BA in English and journalism… and dozens of graduate hours in mass communications, public relations, and public health studies.  I have sharpened my health writing expertise through workshops sponsored by the American Medical Writers Association.

And, I have learned persuasive copywriting from the best copywriters in the business, taught through American Writers’ and Artitsts, Inc. (AWAI).  I’m armed with their secrets — sales knowledge, persuasive skills, and a deep knowledge of the craft of copywriting. I’ll bring that passion, experience, and direct-response savvy to every assignment I write!

And… I’ve got a healthy attitude

Enthusiasm, energy – those are traits that have served me well in my writing career. I am always ready to research a new topic, start a new project… to learn more about health and wellness. Away from my trusty laptop, I am likely to be taking a quick run, cycling, or meeting a friend in my Atlanta in-town neighborhood. I believe in the stress-relieving power of great relationships (humans and pets), a sense of humor, exercise, healthy food, meditation,  and a good night’s sleep.

A native of Iowa, I grew up along the Mississippi River, not far from the birthplaces of two American icons — Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) and Buffalo Bill Cody. The Big River instilled curiosity in my soul.
